a show space

so, i called the real estate manager guy about the rent estimate and he said that he would remeasure, but it would most likely be $330. That sounds pretty alright. Are you all game? i'm in. anyway maybe post your response? we'll need to sign a temporary lease. we need to discuss layout ideas ands potential show design plans. i would like to have live music, but instrumental noisy stuff. i guess i'll save my ideas for our next meeting. ok.

No critique tomorrow

Hi everyone,
At the meeting we agreed it would be better if we didn't have critique this week. I emailed Lisa and told her we wouldn't need her.
We should figure out what to do about the academic fair. I don't think we can re-arrange Lisa anymore, her schedule is too tight. Maybe we can keep the Sweets as scheduled and move the Savories to another time?

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

The good: fig drawing at olympia free school (downtown right off of capitol) this sunday 7-9 for us kids behind in that. Come one come all...

The bad: Kim mentioned that our next crit is schedualed during the academic fair. Could be a problem no?

The ugly: Judy Bauman is looking for two wayward skullzzz. Anyone seen them? They were last seen on top of two skeletons in the fig. drawing room.

Pedestals

Hey I asked Judy if there are any pedestals available to us and it sounds like there are but Bob Leverich is going to need some too for Shaping and they will get priority.

If you need pedestals, reply to this post asap with the number you need realistically

This totally sucks, and I'm sorry.

I became aware last night of another lice outbreak in my house/group of friends.  Unfortunately all of you were at my house recently.  I just want to say that giving your head a check for lice would be smart... and I'm really sorry for this scare/notice.   Some of you are at more risk than others. If you do end up with lice and need someone to pick your nits, I will be that someone.

If you have questions about lice... I am now the lice trivia princess.  Just call.

It's been hell.
Love,
Natalie

p.s. sorry

UPDATE:

i am gonna meet with some dude at 10:30 on monday to check out the space by jakes, sorry i guess i'll miss the meeting-anyone wanna come with? please? i'm nervous. i'm gonna wear a business suit.
hey hommies...so i called the two spaces that kim posted (thanks kim) and i will be conversing with both soon (they were both in meetings) it sounded positive . ummm so Emily is real interested in showing with her group along with us, they are 4 students making some awesome color black&white photos, prints, and sculptures of weapons. there are also 3 students that would preforming-spoken word. They have $300 to contribute.
i think this would really add to our show, generate more interest and bring a larger audience. This would mean potential editing of work so we are all showing our most awesome works, We could vote on this shit. one vote for yes.
any questions about the other group- just ask me and I'll relay to Emily.

Next week critique

Lisa pointed out that the way our critique schedule is now, the Sweets will be going both week eight and week nine. It doesn't seem likely that most of us will be able to get enough work done in between these critiques to merit both sessions. It has been proposed that we skip week eight critique in favor of having a really knock-out final critique. I am in favor of this option. Any one else? Jake, if you want both critique days, maybe week eight can just be for you.

notes from the meeting

Hi everyone, just thought I would re-cap the decisions made at the meeting:

1. We will now be meeting at Vic's instead of at school for our Monday meeting and seminar. Same time, friendlier place. We will make sure that people who are manning the bake sale or who need to get to their jobs on campus get rides.

2. I will be at the Reef every wednesday night at 8. Everyone who needs to talk about their process or ideas or art (or anything else) should be there, too.

3. Natalie will communicate with Rita about more people from our group attending and/or speaking at the symposium.

4. Everyone look for a different space. We have a backup plan, we can make it work, now let's find the perfect space. We have until the first of the month (right?). We want our opening on Thursday of week ten, the 13th of March. Ideal dates to have the space are March 12-19.

5. Everyone bring ten suggestions for a new name to the next meeting.

6. We will start having drawing field trips for those who are interested.

7. We will keep the group size at 10 for next quarter. However, we can invite other students to come critique us and be critiqued by us as one-time "guests artists".

Legging it UP!

Some numbers for spaces:
414 the old Bhuddist House
253.961.2299 or 360.584.4100

319 4th Ave, left of Jake's (the bar not the dude)
360.259.1894

I collected the numbers, if someone else wants to the talking. I'm not the greatest haggler.

Considerations for Next Quarter

I was at Orca today and took the opportunity to comb through the art books for spring quarter. Here are three books I know nothing about but seemed interesting:
Unnatural Wonders by Arthur C. Danto -Alicia you mentioned wanting to read some Danto, have you read this before
Visual Shock: a History of Art Controversies in American Culture by Michael Kammen -this looked really interesting, check out the reviews on Amazon.
Writing on the Wall: Word and Image in Modern Art by Simon Morley - Nick, I was thinking of your recent interest in text, but I think this would benefit all of us.

Also Consider Taking the Leap: Building a Career as a Visual Artist by Cay Lang -Alicia and I have both read parts of this. It is exactly what the title says. detailed and current.

Is this the indiscernable thing that links us?

maybe the wunderhammer is what we are all looking for....

Ryan is awesome

Ryan, Matt Hamon is just wrong.
Wrong.
Ryan's work this week made huge conceptual progress. Matt meant well, he meant to push you, which you are up to the challenge of, but he was wrong.
Ryan. Made. Progress.

after you left, everyone said:
Yay Ryan!!!!

Thought you should know.

Ryan doesn't suck unless he wants to

I just want to put it out there that Matt Hamon was completely off about his comments on Ryan's work. In looking at Ryan's work today I felt more drawn to and intrigued by it than I have been before. I feel that he has made a break through, the work is more resolved in idea and as a series. Hamon may have meant well but his arguments were unconvincing. I feel it is no one's position to remind someone of their age and give that as an excuse for the quality of the work that they make.

Wednesday! Meeting! Seminar! Fun!

Hi everyone,
Sorry for the last minute, but.....
How about we meet for dinner after critique on Wednesday. We can have a meeting, seminar, and hang out. And eat cupcakes.
I am offering my house for this, with the fair warning that it is small and I haven't had time to tidy, so you will witness the chaos I live in. OR you can volunteer your own house.
Good. See ya'll tomorrow.

be there

Monday Meeting?

Are we going to have a seminar on monday? Cause it's a holiday. Dead Prezidents Day to be exact. Can we reschedule to another time - like wednesday mourning? Or tuesday if we can figure out peoples schedules...
Loves and Kisses

Rita is planning on attending atleast a half an hour of our critique today. She wants to see our work, and observe how we run critique. If not today then definitely next week.

CIEL Symposium

Hey Everyone,

So, last night I was talking to my friend Meghan, who is in charge of a group called "Press", which is another student run collective/group at Evergreen. They also received an email from Rita asking if they would like to attend the symposium in Bellingham for Collaborative Innovative Experimental Learning. She told me that we should go talk to Rita. So today Kim and I went and talked to Rita about the details of this invitation and she was really excited that we wanted to be involved. Groups from all over the country are going to be there giving presentations/performances/etc. of what they are all about. This is a really awesome opportunity for us to get our name and work out there. Evergreen has funding for four of us to go, Kim, Kate, and I are signed up. We are all 3D artists and I think the fourth to attend should be a 2D artist. This entails 3 or 4 days in Bellingham the 2nd week of next quarter, a speech/presentation about your work, and work to be displayed at the symposium.

We are now a part of Collaborative Innovative Experimental Learning which means that any of us during our time at Evergreen have the opportunity to attend any of the other universities involved across the country (including their study abroad programs) for up to ONE YEAR, while paying tuition at Evergreen!!!! How fucking cool is that?! This is a big deal guys... we deserve this. There is even a program in Africa!!!!

So, if you have any desires/questions Kim and I are going to be in touch with the directors of this years symposium. Or if you have a question about the details.. or anything, just ask. I am sure I am leaving something out, but we will keep you posted.

We are Rockin!!!

drinks?

Hi everyone,
I miss your pretty faces. And I want to hear about how everyone is doing with their projects. So, this is kind of last minute, but I will be at le voyer (I know, I know, but they have my favorite beer on tap) at around 8:00 tonight. If anyone wants to come talk with me about art, I will love to see you. If not, I will talk to myself (which I need to do anyway - so don't feel guilty for not coming).
cool.

Rita e-mail

Did anyone els get the email from Rita about a conference at Western Washington? If so, is anyone interested? I am, but I wasn't in Erica's class so I don't know if I "qualify". Anyway, I would love to know what others think about this opportunity.
