hey I made a mistake, for week 1 reading, scratch the chapter 1 of art and artifact. Read just the introduction (it's already thirty pages) + chapter 1 of poetics of space.

Things that we determined last meeting
Hey Everybody, here is a recap to stuff that we talked about last meeting, which I have finally posted. we had a lot to cover and it was rather difficult because everyone had holiday stuff.. so all of this info still needs to be gone over with everybody democratically, if that is the political system we are going for anyways.
I suggest that we have a meeeting to finalize stuff before school starts. What day does everyone return? Could it work to have a meeting on the 4th or so? Reply to this post and let us all know.
Reading:
It was determined that 60 pages a week was reasonable for the group reading. This can be further discussed though.
Books that are to be read thoroughly:
Poetics of Space- Bachelard (get this soon- reading for week 1)
Art& Artifact- James Putnam (get this soon- reading for week 1)
Art Objects-Jeanette Winterson (seminaring on text week 6+7)
excerpts:
Image, Music Text-Barthes (seminar week 6+7)
On Longing- Susan Stewart (seminar week 8+9)
Madonna of the Future-Danto (t.b.d)
Air Guitar-Hickey (t.b.d)
Potential Schedule for the Week:
MONDAYS: all w.f.s meeting (this is the time when decisions for the rest of the week get finalized so everyone needs to be there) Reading Seminar afterwards.
WEDNESDAYS/FRIDAYS: critique. Depends on faculty's availablility. E-mail your faculty!
THURSDAY/FRIDAY EVENING: Event fun. Hopefully Vanessa can hook us up with film viewings at the Grand Ol' Olympia Film Society's Capitol Theatre.
SCHEDULE for WEEK 1 + 2
Week 1: ALL GROUP MEETING: Powerpoint presentations, finalize and sign covenant. Decide what Event will be+ other items of necessity
SEMINAR: Introduction and Chapter 1 of Art and Artifact, 1 Chapter of Poetics of Space.
Week 2: ALL GROUP MEETING: Decide what Event will be + other items of necessity
SEMINAR: Chapter 2 Art and Artifact, Chapter 2 Poetics of Space, Selected Excerpt (to be determined)
We need to further discuss the concrete reading schedule. But this is a headstart for reading. If anyone doesn't want to purchase Art and Artifact, you can photocopy it from me during the break. Just let me know.
Fundraising: Bakesales! 5 times during the quarter in the Cab. We decided a day. I can't remember which one though. Once we have enough start-up capital- let's have a SECRET CAFE! that's good moneys and we all love food too. Also people sell your stuff on etsy.com. We can fundraise as a group or do it independently. The goal is 1,000. that is 100$ per person which is not so bad spread throughout 9 weeks if you think about it.
ye gads I don't want to do this note taking thing anymore. Anyone else want to take the reigns? someone with more legible handwriting? Ryan Hudgins? hmm?

Hey Kiddos
Merry (insert holiday)! I hope you are all gorging, as I plan to do.
Other than art and artifact, what were the books we intended to fully read (that I may pick them up and read them...) I wrote them all down, but Dalton had my planner until I can start remembering that I forgot it.
Take Care

week 1
hello lovers
this is just the beginning of i'm sure a lot of updates to come from all of us concerning the beginning of the quarter. one thing that we discussed during our previous meeting was a way that we could better familiarize ourselves with eachothers influences, previous bodies of work, etc.
it was suggested that during week 1 we all give short powerpoint presentations talking about our work. no sweat on this business, if any of you have never done powerpoint its a piece of cake and I can help (along with probably half of the group)
just something to think about compiling if you are ever bored during the break
hope you are all well!

I've gone missing
Hey Everyone!
Sorry I have been unable to attend the last two meetings. I am in Illinois... soon to be in Hawaii, and I would love if someone could catch me up on what I missed. I think everything posted on the blog sounds great (covenant, etc.). If there is anything really important, call me, or email me.
Have a great Holiday.
p.s. I invested in a new camera, and took some photos of miniatures in the snow. I will post them soon, they're funny. I'm pretty obsessed with miniature objects right now. Got a mini grand piano yesterday... it's a hoot.
Love,
Nat

critique room schedule
So I spoke to Miss Judy and we have the critique room in the art annex reserved for Wednesdays in the morning, i.e. 9 am to noon. She said that that day is wide open and it most likely wouldn't be an issue to go over time wise since professors have governance in the afternoons. We could also check week to week if there is anything we need to clear out immediately at noon for.

schedule
Hi everybody.
Nick was kind enough to supply his schedule for next quarter, and that is what everybody else should do, too. If we have a list of everybody's obligations, then when we are finagling access to an AV room, when can find a time that works for the most people. It will probably be easiest if everryone just replies to this in the comments section, so we have everybody's obligations in one place.
Thanks a lot.
Alicia

Work!
So right now I work Mon. 8-12, thurs is either 8-12 or 1-5 (erica's A/B thing) and fri.8-12. This is all able to be shifted, so it isnt too big of a deal if stuff needs to be scheduled that time. However, that block of time(8-12 or 1-5) is pretty crucial not to break up, so I can work before or after our madness.

In the beggining, there was the Pilcrow = ¶
Here is my first ¶ of my contract, the unifying ¶, call it what you may... here it is:
A group of students are banding together to create a small artistic community at evergreen. We will be doing independent work, with an emphasis on studio practice. There will be some shared readings based on the applicability to each artist respectively. There will be weekly seminars, critiques, and field trips to major art events such as First and Last Thursday in Seattle and Portland. Also there will be a community aspect to lend support to the other artists, this will include but is not limited to, movie screenings, and cultural happenings. At the end of the quarter we will host a show of our work.
